Student Registration

All students must be registered prior to any class or private lesson participation.  Walk-ins will not be accepted.  A full registration package includes required forms, a qualification video, and a registration fee.  More details can be found on our Get Started! page.

Location

Protégé Dance will be using the Jazzercise Fitness Center located in Farragut (156 West End Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37934) for all classes and private lessons.

Enrollment

The regular season of classes takes place September-April.  Student Showcase rehearsals take place during May (see Student Showcase section below).  New students may register at any time.

Schedule

Technique Classes are regularly scheduled on Tuesday evenings 7:45-9:15 PM. Calendars will be posted on our Schedule page two months in advance.  Any changes will be updated and students will be notified via e-mail.

Sign-In/Pick-up

Dancers should arrive 5 minutes early for sign-in.  Upon registration each dancer will receive a student ID card.  All dancers must bring their student ID card to every class/lesson to present at sign-in.  Any lost ID cards should be reported and a $5 replacement fee will  be charged.

Please ensure that your child is picked up on time from all classes.

Payments

Protégé Dance uses a "pay by the class" system so you only pay for the services in which you receive - no more paying for classes that you miss!

  • All classes must be paid for prior to the class participation.
  • Classes must either be pre-purchased online with a credit card (which are loaded onto your student ID card) or can be paid for at sign-in with a check or cash.
  • Students will not be allowed to participate without proper payment.
  • There are no refunds and pre-purchased classes are not transferrable to other students.
  • Pre-purchased classes can roll over to the next season.

Arriving Late/Sitting Out

Any students arriving late will still be charged for the full class.  Students should not attend if they will be arriving more than 30 minutes late.

If a student chooses to come to class and sit out that student will still be charged for the class.  If a student is injured they will be allowed to sit out without being charged with a valid written doctor's note.

Attire

Dancers shall wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement.

  • Baggy clothing such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and sweatpants may be worn during warm-up but will need to be removed once warm-up is complete.
  • Any dancer wearing clothing the instructor deems inappropriate will be asked to change.

Hair can be worn at the dancer's discretion.

  • All dancers shall be prepared to pull their hair back if the instructor chooses (an example is the instructor may ask students wearing their hair down to pull it back while turning).

Shoes can be worn at the dancer's discretion.

  • Shoes are not required
  • It is recommended for dancers to bring jazz shoes (or other equivalent shoes) to each class.

Jewelry can be worn at the dancer's discretion.

  • Students will be asked to remove any jewelry deemed dangerous by the instructor (dangle earrings, hoop piercings, etc.).

Inclement Weather

Please check our website for updates on cancellations due to inclement weather.  Emails will also be sent out to students notifying of any cancellations.

Student Inactivity

Any student that remains inactive for 6 months will automatically be terminated and any remaining pre-purchased classes forfeited.

Student Showcase

The Student Showcase is our highlight at the end of the year.  Student Showcase rehearsals take place in May.  Students must be registered by the end of January to be eligible to participate in the student showcase.

Elite Protégé Program

The Elite Protégé Program is a unique opportunity only offered to a few students ages 16 and up (as of January 1, 2012).  This program is designed to meet the full definition of a Protégé by helping senior level students develop other dance skills such as choreographing, teaching, and auditioning just to name a few.

  • The dancers will serve as assistants to the Director and will be selected for this program based upon their skill level as shown in their Qualification Video (for Elite Protégé Program consideration, your video needs to be a self-choreographed jazz, lyrical, or contemporary solo routine).
  • Further details on Elite Protégé perks and commitments are explained in our studio policy found on our Get Started! page.  Registration must be submitted on or before August 15th to be considered for the Elite Protégé Program.
